The trailer was converted from double deck car transporter by the previous owner to transport Princess 38 cruiser, but you can see from the photograph that it may be possible to carry boat of longer length, possibly 42ft. also the adjustable outriggers will cater for wider beams. Since conversion it has only been used to transport the boat every winter from marina to the owners premises where it was kept inside purpose built hanger. When the boat was returned to the marina in spring the trailer was kept inside the hanger, hence its good condition. We used Sealand boat transporters to move the boat for us and they provided report on the trailer to show that it was legal to use without it being plated. Copy of report from Sealand who were used to transport the boat.
The trailer has been extended and converted to carry Princess 38 motor cruiser 12.28m 3.96m wide. The trailer has been extended during conversion to reach out as far as the stern of the boat that is 12.28m overall length, so the semi-trailer must be longer than 13m from tail to kingpin. Special Types semi-trailers which are both over 2.55m wide and longer than 12m from rear to kingpin are not subject to plating and testing if they are only being used under Special Types CAT [50-tonnes]. The trailer we are concerned with has been fitted with steel outriggers that are wider than 2.55m and the trailer appears to be at least 13m from rear to kingpin. The September 2020 Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) inspection manual for Trailers (O1, O2, O3 and O4) carries this information for trailers manufactured before 29 October 2012...
