1928 Star Flyer side loading horse box by Vincents of ReadingA part restoration.  All mechanicals have been completed, and only requires timber American Ash body to complete, unfortunately lack of space and time mean it has not been touched in few years.  It was widely rumoured locally to have belonged to The Prince of Wales and my dad used to say that he remembered it being in grey with stripe around the side and the prince's plume of feathers crest on the side also. PrincipledimensionsWheelbase 15ft 6ins   ULW 2ton 3cwt   Engine 6cyl ohv 3620cc   RAC rating 24hp/65bhp    speed gearbox with twin dry plate clutch This vehicle was one of the first of batch of six Star Flyer chassis supplied to Vincent’s of Reading in early 1928. Vincent’s were specialists in the construction of horse boxes for more than 100 years   and   were suppliers of such vehicles to the Royal family, indeed we have evidence to substantiate that it was supplied to the order of H.R.H. Prince of Wales. The Star spent most of its life in the Melton Mowbray area where the Prince Edward hunted with the Quorn. During 1930 it belonged to Major Higson of Burton Hall, Melton Mowbray. It passed through various hands before finishing up in Lincolnshire scrap-yard where in 1967 it was rescued. The chassis was stripped, blasted and repainted, followed by similar treatment for all the running gear before re assembly could begin. The crankshaft has been reground, new bearings fitted along with new set of gears for the gearbox, new clutch plates, brakes relined and rebuilt starter motor. new stainless steel petrol tank and exhaust system has been made and fitted from the original pattern.  All the woodwork was salvaged to be re-used after treatment and some served as patterns and templates for replacements. So in essence we have in dry store unique historic vehicle that has been so far, lovingly restored to an exceptional standard. fully renovated painted rolling chassis with professionally restored and re-engineered running engine and gearbox. pair of new, painted front wings and bonnet await fitting. The cab framework is in place complete with doors.   All the wood, ie seasoned  American Ash, awaits to finish the restoration, along with the aluminium faced ply for the box and even the coconut  matting  for the inside of the box. There are plenty of spares including front axle and wheels and tyres, half shafts etc. with loads of photographs, receipts and history. For more information concerning this unique opportunity to acquire genuine piece of British motoring history. more photographs available on request
